These ancestors were use in south China by the Hakkas, in Fujian area. They figure the direct ancestors of the family, grands parents most of the time. They were carved on very realistic way, similar from the alive model and placed on the ancestor Altar. This habit disappears with the emergence of the photography, the portraits of the ancestor replacing the statues.

There are very few examples of these Hakka ancestor pairs as they were destroyed during the cultural revolution. This pair was saved because bring to Taiwan during the XIX century by Fujian immigrant.
